A committee of representatives from each jurisdiction meets regularly to review current protocols and makes recommendations for changes and additions to the Medical Direction Board which consists of the Operational Medical Directors within the region along with other stakeholders.

2022 Version:
For those EMS providers who HAVE attended an update on the 2022 version of the regional protocols, you'll find them below. Jurisdictional agencies are in the process of updating providers. NO providers should use the new version until completing an update. If you're in doubt, please contact your EMS Captain or jursdictional coordinator. 

The Council app has been updated with BOTH versions of the protocols.

The authorization requirement for ALL EMS providers within the Commonwealth is defined in the Virginia Emergency Medical Services Regulations as follows:

"EMS personnel as defined in ยง 54.1-3408 of the Code of Virginia may only provide emergency medical care while acting under the authority of the operational medical director for the EMS agency for which they are affiliated and within the scope of the EMS agency license. Privileges to practice must be on the agency's official stationery or indicated in the agency records which are signed and dated by the OMD."

2019 Version:
The Council's 2019 version of the regional protocols are still in effect for those providers who have NOT had an update to the 2022 version. See above for the 2022 version for those that have attended an update. Jurisdictional agencies are in the process of updating providers. NO providers should use the new version until completing an update.
